(February 2014) -- The first college semester of the year has begun, and our campus is buzzing with activity as students settle into their routines after a long and cold winter break. In the spirit of new beginnings during this traditional time of reflection, I'd like to offer four tips for college students in 2014.
Simmons School of Social Work, the First School of Social Work in the Nation, Launches Online Master's Program
(February 18, 2014) -- Simmons College School of Social Work, the nation's first school of social work, continues its 110 year tradition of innovation with its announcement today that it will offer its Master of Social Work (MSW) degree online. The new program, SocialWork@Simmons, will offer aspiring social workers from around the country the opportunity to earn a graduate social work degree from a nationally accredited institution that is a pioneer in clinical social work education, without relocating to Boston.
Simmons Mourns Loss of Former President William J. Holmes
(February 7, 2014) -- Letter from President Drinan: I write to share the sad news that William J. Holmes, the fourth President of Simmons College, passed away this morning. Holmes became president in 1970 and retired from the College in 1993.
Premier Children's Literature Journal Moves to Simmons
(January 23, 2014) -- The Horn Book, the premier journal of children's literature, will be moving its editorial offices to the Simmons campus in April, leasing space in the One Palace Road building. The move will provide an even stronger connection between The Horn Book and Simmons's Center for the Study of Children's Literature (CSCL), with the potential for increased opportunities for students.
President Drinan's Response to the American Studies Association (ASA) Boycott of Israel Academic Institutions
(January 2014) -- As everyone surely knows by now, in December the American Studies Association, an academic member organization dedicated to the field of American Studies, voted to boycott Israeli academic institutions. They have defined this action as refusing to "enter into formal collaborations with Israeli academic institutions, or with scholars who are expressly serving as representatives or ambassadors of those institutions, or on behalf of the Israeli government, until Israel ceases to violate human rights and international law." Numerous college and university leaders have denounced the organization for the boycott. Several other academic associations have discussed the possibility of a similar boycott, though none have announced one as of this date.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to Deliver Keynote Address at 35th Annual Simmons Leadership Conference
(December 11, 2013) — Simmons College has announced that Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State and Former U.S. Senator from New York, will deliver the closing keynote address at its April 23 Simmons Leadership Conference.

New Fund Supports Research by Students
(October 3, 2013) -- Promoting student research is a strategic priority for Simmons, part of a broader commitment to enhancing the undergraduate experience. The new Toulopoulos Student Research Fund, created with a gift from Trustee Pam Toulopoulos '73, will provide grants of up to $10,000 for undergraduates doing scholarly research in any discipline. Toulopoulos was inspired to make this gift in honor of her 40th Reunion, which she celebrated last June.
