Simmons Sets $85 Million Goal for Largest Campaign Ever
New Initiative Will Boost Financial Aid, Enhance Academics
(November 1, 2009) -- The Simmons Board of Trustees has announced a record $85 million goal for the College's Making Education Work campaign. Scheduled to continue through 2014, the initiative will further strengthen the College's impressive academic programs and make them more affordable for students. It's the largest campaign in Simmons's history.
Making Education Work will focus fresh resources on the College's distinctive mission: preparing students for rewarding lives and career success through an education that combines the liberal arts and sciences with professional preparation. Gifts to the campaign will fund scholarships, internship stipends, study abroad, student and faculty research, and much more.
"Plain and simple, this campaign is about our most precious assets, our students, the faculty, and the possibilities we can create for them," said Trustee and Chair of the Advancement Committee Judy Samdperil Mann '83. "It focuses on the urgent need to keep Simmons accessible, intellectually insightful, and nationally competitive." Commenting on the campaign's emphasis on generating financial aid, she added, "Never before have we seen such turbulent economic times, where so many need so much help so sincerely."
Several Simmons trustees have already have stepped forward with significant Campaign gifts. They urge alumnae/i, faculty, staff, parents, and friends to support this community-wide effort.
"What I say to alumnae/i is, look in your heart, look at what has helped you get where you are today. Then think about helping current and future students follow in your footsteps," said Board Chair Lauren Brisky '73. "Your gift will be put to good use and have a long-term impact."
